Jimmy's Sandtrap: Easy To Get In, Hard To Get Out...

Jimmy has been in the business a long time.  He has a following.  And his expertise makes this a great watering hole.

Great corned beef.  Having lived in Miami and worked restaurants, Jimmy knows corned beef.  Oi!
Beer? Jimmy's got beer.  Check it out.

Service with a smile?  He's got it above all.
Potatoe, potatoe, potatoe... He got a Harley too.

Jimmy's is centrally located for Sarasota clientele.  It's to the east of Southgate mall.  
Had it been me, I would have simply called it "Jimmy's".   Great name if I say so myself.
There have been many famous "Jimmys"....

If you like fried catfish, crab, burgers in an out of the way place I recommend the Linger Lodge just north of Sarasota Florids.  From I 75 go West on 70, take the first left and loop around through all the high end subdivisions till you dead end at the Linger Lodge.  A little get-a-way camper park and restaurant this is the place for you.  Aside from the caged birds on display and the dock out back for kayaking and fishing, you can either park your camper or rent a log cabin for a nice stay with all the amenities.

Sushi In Sarasota Florida...

  In a small storefront in Sarasota across from South Gate Mall is a quite getaway with great food.  Sushi, sashime, several grilled delicacies and a wide assortment of beverages 

makes Kazu's a great place for that early date. 

One thing I always look for when I visit a sushi establishment is the freshness of the wasabi.  And fresh it is.       

As is the rest of the menu... 

I have been a frequent visitor for the past two years... and highly recommend it to all.

Batchelor Breakfast:Or How To Have A Hot Breakfast At Work For Under 30 Cents A Day!

Yeah, that's right... about thirty cents a day, or therebouts.  Here's how...

This one started innocously enough... What to do with those left over cereals? I got creative.  In a large container I put my Quaker Oats, Trail Mix Cereal, Brown Sugar, as well as a bag of walnuts I ground up. With an old Mr. Coffee scoop I had breakfast totally contained. Now, how to prepare for my day at work.

To start, in a baggie, add a table spoon or more of syrup. A friend brought me some from Maine... the good stuff. But, any syrup will do.

Then, as I had some bananas that I peeled them and froze them awhile back as they surely would go bad.,Put half in each bag.

Then, four to five scoops of the breakfast mix.

Seal, rack and place in freezer. That's it. At work, put some bottled water into the bag, enough to moisten the contents. Then, place the resealed ziplock bag into a small bowl filled with water. I am finding that cooking IN water in a microwave is really the way to go. When done (I do mine two minutes on high) I open the bag and squeeze the contents into a bowl. The original cooking bowl will do once you dump the water out. If you choose, use a cup or styrofoam bowl while dumping the water in the cooking bowl and allowig the clean bowl (you only boiled water in it) to dry at the sink. 'Njoy!

Batchelor Cooking: A Great Four Minute Potatoe

Ok, you're single and cooking for one at times is a hassle, or if buying groceries in bulk that rot... a waste of money and smelly time then this is for you.

Here is a great way to get some life out of a bag of potatoes. First, when you get home with a bag of potatoes wash them with a green scrubby. No soap. Wash/scrub your potatos. Then wrap them in saran wrap. Place them back in the bag you got them in and put them in the freezer. YES, THE FREEZER.

Now, when you are hungry, want a potatoe or, you just want a cheap lunch for work. you're set.   If you have access to a microwave, in four minutes you're in business. Take the potatoe to work and leave it in the fridge. By noon it is thawed but still cold. Toss it in the microwave at full power for 4 minutes.

Here's the chemistry: The potatoe cells freeze and expand. When it thaws, the cells are essentially cold or "pre-cooked".  That's what makes the microwaving cook so effectively. While the microwave is going, take a packet of mustard and a packet of mayonaise and mix them. Add some " Newman's Own" or other salad dressing if you have it. When the potatoe is done, place it on your plate (careful handling it, it's hot) and with a knife dissect the saran wrap away and slice a "V" length cut out of the potatoe. Everything goes there.You can scoop out or section it. If you brought some cheese, get a knife and shave it over this. Stir the mustard/mayo mix in and VIOLA! C'est Bon!
